My work was on shut down last week.  I used the time doing what I love to do.  Painting.  It's relaxing and creative and it brings me happiness to see what transpires.  Earlier this spring, my sister and her husband gave us a playhouse that their grandchildren had out grown.  She thought I might like it for our grandchildren to play in.  We went and got it and brought it home and looking at it in the back yard sent my imagination back to my own childhood when for Christmas in my sixth year I received a wooden table and chair set, a sweet donkey stuffed animal,  a Chatty Cathy doll, a musical rocker.  It was a fabulous Christmas!  I'll go into more detail about it as that time comes near.

One weekend, my husband, Dennis cleared an area and framed in a square that would become a deck on which to place the house and give the children a stable surface on which to play.  The back yard is basically down hill all the way and there isn't much room for a level surface.

Next, the house was placed on the deck and I began to paint the house with a primer.  Water base Kilz does the job nicely and also allows a surface on which to paint the color you want.  Our house and buildings are all a shade of green and I wanted to continue the same coloring with this house to make it cohesive and as if it was meant to be placed with the other buildings.

The next weekend, the grandchildren came to visit and when Kate woke up in the morning, she happened to see the house out the window.  She went over to the window and with mussed hair standing on her tiptoes, she said with excitment, "What's that"?  Grandpa told her that if she ate a good breakfast he would take her out to see it.  She did and they all had a good time as you can see playing on and around the house.

Inside the house, objects were molded in white so I gathered the paints that I like to use on a basic palette which are red, yellow, blue, green, white and black.  I mix the shades I want from those basic colors.  And I began filling in the color and giving the molded images life.

While we were on our Missouri vacation, Dennis drove me four hours to Skiatook, Oklahoma where on the internet I had seen these cement figures of children at play.  They were lifelike and the scale was perfect so we brought them home.  When Kate went out to the playhouse for the first time, she patted one of the girls on the head and bent down and said "Hi" to her.  It was so sweet and a lovely memory for me.

The house is still dismanteled so that I can get in and out of it more easily while working on it.

It's a cheerful play place and hopefully, Kate will get a lot of enjoyment from it.  I plan on creating other areas that my little boy grandsons will enjoy.  This was a fun project for me.
